The box office telephone number is FringeGuru's review of this venueC Too, otherwise known as St Columba's by the Castle, is a site imbued with the history of the Festival. First used way back in 1955, and now in the more-than-capable custodianship of the C venues chain, it hosts a varied, unpretentious programme of theatre, musicals and children's shows. More modern venues may be bigger, better or more comfortable - but nowhere else comes closer to the old-time spirit of the Fringe. Even the venue's limitations can be turned to strengths by an imaginative company, with actors entering, exiting, and even performing on the gangways which run through the audience. Try not to be at the back of the queue, though - with seats right around three sides of the stage, the very last to arrive may find they see most of the action from behind. Eating and drinking at this venueC Too's small courtyard bar is one of the best-kept secrets of the Fringe. In the shadow of the church, with tables tucked in between the greenery, it's a quiet and friendly place to meet friends - quiet, that is, except for the few minutes before the start of a show. There are spectacular views of Heriot's School, lit up at night or in all its Renaissance glory during the day. In wet weather, of course, the experience is a lot less satisfactory, though true stalwarts can find some shelter under the gazebos.
