The Lot is Fringe venue number 24 Its address is 4 Grassmarket, Edinburgh EH1 2JU, which is in the Grassmarket and Cowgate area of the city. See a map of this area. The venue's website is www.the-lot.co.uk - but you cannot book tickets online through this website. The box office telephone number is FringeGuru's review of this venueThe Lot, a bright and airy conversion of a former church, makes the most of its high beamed ceiling and arched windows. After days in blacked-out Fringe venues, a trip to the Lot will see you blinking in the sunlight - which streams through the generous panes of glass to flood the performance space upstairs. But before you go in, step back for a moment to admire The Lot's exterior: there are turrets and niches to enjoy, and the Castle, on its rock high above, seems to peek over the building's shoulder. The interior, by contrast, is strikingly modern... though the antique-style bathrooms are surely a contender for the swankiest toilets on the Fringe. The Lot's main role is as a music venue, where it plies its trade on both the Jazz and Blues Festival and the Fringe. Many of these events feature cabaret-style seating; arrive at least half an hour early if you want to bag one of the small venue's half-dozen cabaret tables, or the sofas in the gallery upstairs (the latter have no view of the stage). Otherwise, you'll be in rows of seats towards the back of the main space, or ranged in slightly awkward seats round the edge of the gallery. Eating and drinking at this venueThe ground floor of the Lot is given over to a bright bistro bar, serving good unpretentious lunches and substantial evening meals. There's also a bar at the back of the performance room, which stays open for cabaret-style events. Where to get tickets for this venueHere's where you can buy tickets for this venue.
