FringeGuru's review of this venue

On first impressions, the Quaker Meeting House is just a little too earnest: there are spiritual quotations in the programme, the café is (inevitably) vegetarian and the staff address everyone as "friends". But the programme, while distinctly sedate, is by no means censored; the productions are often of high quality, and, in a month when so many church halls and other places of worship are given over to a secular use, it's refreshing to find a venue which still gives a nod to the spiritual side.

Past the waiting room (no queuing in the rain here) and at the top of the stairs, you'll find proper theatre-style seating, a large stage, and room to fit almost 100. It can be hard to concentrate if a particularly loud stag party goes past on the street outside - but overall, there's nothing to complain about at this venue.

The Quaker Meeting House runs a different programme each week of the Fringe, so you'll need to be quick to catch a particular show. There are no shows on Sundays, when the venue instead holds a Quaker meeting.

Eating and drinking at this venue

The bustling vegetarian Quaker Parrot Café is well worth a visit, serving good value "Budgie Bites" and satisfying "Parrot Feasts". It's admittedly a little basic, but has a reassuringly honest feel - and all profits go to Quaker causes. The café closes at 6pm; after that, cold drinks and crisps are available from the box office.
