Find A Venue | Royal Lyceum |
FringeGuru's review of this venueMore, perhaps, than any other venue, the small Royal Lyceum succeeds in combining a traditional theatre with essential modern comforts. In its elegant blue auditorium, you can while away the minutes before the play admiring the chandelier on the domed, decorated roof, and the lovely decoration on the arch of the stage. Yet all the seats are modern and comfortable, and - miracle of miracles - they all have decent legroom. The very low ceilings in the dress and upper circles do give the impression of watching a play through a letterbox, and a tall man in the upper circle could just about bump his head, but it's a well-designed theatre and nearly everyone has a good view. Only a few restricted-view seats have problems with pillars, and those in the very back of the stalls might find their view constrained by the floor of the dress circle above. Eating and drinking at this venueThere are bright and airy bars on all three levels of the theatre. The Wyndham Bar, outside the dress circle, is especially worth a visit: it has the feel of a modernized Edwardian drawing room, complete with decorated ceiling and fireplace. |
