A couple of years back, any experimental theatre company worth its salt was sticking its audience in blindfolds; no trip to the Fringe felt complete until you’d spent a bit of time in the dark.  But just as the fad looked to be over, the young Bad Physics theatre company have given it a revitalizing twist, with their critically-acclaimed reworking of Louis de Bernières’ radio play Sunday Morning At The Centre Of The World.

Penned for Radio 3, and invariably compared to Under Milk Wood, de Bernières’ 1999 script revolves around the quirky everyday life of a South London suburb.  Wear the blindfold you’re offered as you come in, and you’ll experience a play for voices – just as it was always meant to be heard.  But that’s not all; we're told your senses of smell and touch will get a workout too, perhaps with a jolt of vinegar or the swish of fabric by your side.  Just as intriguing, you’re invited to lift the blindfold and peek behind the curtain, watching the performers at work among your sightless neighbours.

Genius or gimmickry?  So far, the verdict’s overwhelmingly the former – indeed, the show’s London run already has a Time Out Critics’ Choice to its name.  With the secret so comprehensively out on this play, and just five performances scheduled in Brighton, you’d better book early for your trip to the centre of the world.
