The show's not over yet

The Fringe is finito.  It's been close to four crazy, crazy weeks - but the world's biggest arts festival has called it a day, and rolled out of Edinburgh for another year.

But the Fringe isn't the only show in town.  There's still plenty to catch up on before the fireworks display ends the Festival season on Sunday... and so, if you've got the energy, we've got the details.

International Festival

The highbrow "official" Edinburgh International Festival starts and ends a week later than the Fringe, so has a full week left of its 2008 schedule.  Highlights with tickets remaining include headline play Dorian Gray at the King's Theatre, Deca Dance at the Playhouse, and at the Festival Theatre, one of this year's most intriguing events - the Istanbul Music And Sema Group, otherwise known as the Whirling Dervishes of Turkey.

To find the full list of what's on this week, you can run a search by date on the International Festival's own website.  Check out too our guide to getting tickets for EIF events.

Music on the Fringe

Although the Fringe is generally over, different rules apply at its music venues - which traditionally feel less constrained by the "official" Festival dates.  The Festival of British Youth Orchestras is running in the West End right through to Saturday; while for those who prefer more recent music, The Edge Festival continues to run till Wednesday.

You can see the full list of music on the Fringe by searching its website.  At this late stage, you can no longer book tickets through the Fringe box office or website: however, you're unlikely to have any problems if you contact the venue directly.

Visual art

And it would be a shame to overlook the Festival's programme of visual art, much of which is running well into September.  Much of it's listed in the Fringe programme (search for it here); still more's available as part of the Edinburgh Art Festival.  Almost all events are unticketed - either free, or pay-on-door - so a trip to the galleries doesn't need much planning.  Just grab a booklet, go and browse.

The fireworks

And of course, whatever you do this week, keep the evening of Sunday 31 August free for the famous end-of-festival firework display.  Here's our guide on how to view the fireworks - it's free.

The Fringe may be over, but the show goes on.  Whatever you're doing this week... we hope you'll enjoy what remains of the Festival.
