Bank of Scotland Fireworks Concert, Sunday 31 August, 9pm

This Sunday's your very last chance to get tickets for the Edinburgh International Festival's famous end-of-season fireworks concert, which brings the curtain down on the Festival on Sunday 31 August this year.  To a live orchestral accompaniment, upwards of 100,000 pyrotechnics will go up in the air in an intense, spectacular 45-minute show.

Despite the refinement of the classical music, there's little subtle about the display: crescendo builds upon crescendo towards an impossible, light-drenched finale.  There's only one type of ticket on sale, granting general admission to Princes Street Gardens at a flat rate of £10 - and many ticket-holders choose to make a night of it by bringing a picnic to enjoy on the garden grass.

Unfortunately, for this - the last of three ticket releases - you'll need to spend a little while waiting in line in the notorious Fireworks ticket queue.  A few hardy souls turn the queue into a social occasion by camping out overnight; that isn't actually necessary, but to stand a chance of getting a ticket you will need to be in place early in the morning.

The queue forms at the Hub central ticket office (see a map showing the Hub), and the counters themselves open at 10am this Sunday, 24 August.  There's a limit of four tickets per customer.

If you don't want to queue, don't despair - you can still get a great view of the fireworks without a ticket, and without spending any money at all.  See out main article on the fireworks display for advice on the best viewing spots.
