Plenty still on offer with two weeks to go
Written by Richard Stamp

The excitement's building here in Edinburgh, as the city wakes up to what's coming in just two weeks' time.  And as the clock ticks towards the Festival launch, there's one phrase I keep hearing from my fellow residents: "I'm sure all the best tickets will be gone by now".  Well, I've got great news... the Festival just doesn't work that way.

Plenty to choose from at Fringe and EIF

At the Fringe - which accounts for two-thirds of the shows on offer across the Festival - hardly anything has sold out yet.  In fact, we at FringeGuru think it's best to wait until the Fringe starts before booking too much: as our section on choosing a show explains, one of the best ways to pick is to wait until you've seen the reviews.

The "official" Edinburgh International Festival (EIF) has, admittedly, sold out a few events - but there are literally thousands of seats still available across its programme.  There's still great availability for On Danse, the promised dance spectacular which adorns the front of their programme, and plenty of spaces at major plays Orpheus X and The Baccae.  There's a whole lot more on offer, of course: check out our quick introduction to the EIF for an overview and useful links.

Reserve your seats for books and jazz

There are ten separate Festivals in Edinburgh this summer, and the smaller ones are well worth a look as well.  The Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival will be upon us very soon - it starts on 27 July.  All the same, only a couple of concerts are sold out so far and there's plenty still to choose from every night of the Festival.  As our section on how to get the tickets explains, you can book for the Jazz Festival through the EIF's Hub box office.

Tickets for the Edinburgh International Book Festival always sell quickly.  Still, there's plenty left on offer, with the Festival taking in authors and public figures across the range of literary styles.  And with no reservation required, the Book Festival's antique Spiegeltent is a great place to call for afternoon tea, or a drink in the evening - we have more ideas in our guide to a day at the Festival.

Film Festival premieres on the 15th

The Edinburgh International Film Festival is a latecomer to the Edinburgh party, getting going on 15 August.  It's programme's been out for a couple of weeks now, as we reported in our Ticket Alert section back in mid-July.  But continuing the common theme, there's still great availability across almost all its programme - see our guide to how to find a film and book the tickets.

And don't forget the Art Festival: most of its exhibitions need no pre-booking, and a lot of them are completely free.  Even if the rest of the Festival passes you by, it has to be worth browsing a gallery this August.

How FringeGuru can help

There's no shortage of tickets, but the choice can be overwhelming.  That's why we've put together our detailed Festival How-To section, complete with whole sections on choosing a show, planning a day and getting the tickets.  And if you think the Festival's too expensive, or advice on saving money might be for you.

We also have a range of services to help you make the most of the Festival this year, including our Festival Tour for first-timers and personal advice for anyone who needs a bit more help to choose.

It's coming soon, so get stuck in.  And whatever you choose to do - we hope you'll have a great time at Festival 2007.
