A night in the company of a movie-loving nerd, who owns any DVD you can imagine and talks his way through them all?  Don’t panic: far from a vision of social hell, it’s the well-thought-out set-up for this popular comedy show.  You’ll be greeted by your host Oscar, who’ll invite you to commission your very own screenplay… then his team of off-the-cuff improvisers will put it into production, live before your eyes.

The Scat Pack have been doing the rounds with Lights, Camera, Improvise for a couple of years now, and we caught it back in November ’10 in London.  Back then, our reviewer enjoyed the string of witty gimmicks triggered by Oscar’s “remote control” – with jerky rewinds, frenetic fast-forwards and improbable freeze-frames all acted out at a moment’s notice by the on-stage crew.  It was the random riffs which offered the most fun, he wrote, as the comic ensemble improvised their way skilfully around the audience’s often wacky demands.

Of course, the trouble with recommending improv is that it’s different every time – and we certainly can’t promise any particular show will be as good as the one we saw.  But even if it doesn’t go so well, the affable Oscar’s there to save the day, delivering friendly mockery of his fellow performers.  This isn’t the purest form of improv, but it’s tremendous fun… and we predict another box office success here in Brighton.
