The Big Bite-Size Breakfast Show |

Twitter. Tapas. Twenty20 cricket. Across all of life, it seems, we’ve decided that small is beautiful. And that miniaturised zeitgeist now works for theatre too, thanks to the popular Bite-Size Breakfast Show – which brings its morning smorgasbord of fun-sized delights back to the Pleasance Dome. The Bite-Size format’s a simple and accessible one. You still get a full-length show for you money, but it’s snipped into a series of handy ten-minute plays – performed back-to-back, with a minimum of set and props and with no time for a breather. We’ve no idea what themes to expect from this year’s thespian morsels… but they’re generally funny, occasionally thought-provoking, and invariably well-performed. The 10:30 slot suits Bite-Size: it’s energetic enough to kick-start the sleepiest of mornings, and the short plays don’t demand too much concentration at the start of the day. You don’t even need to eat before you go – the producers promise free coffee and croissants, and even strawberries as your reward for turning out before lunchtime. But the food, of course, shouldn’t be the draw; the play’s the thing, so head along to Bristo Square for a high-quality warm-up to ease into your Festival day. |
