The show's not over yet
Published on Tuesday, 30 August 2011

The Fringe is finito.  It's been close to four crazy, crowded weeks - but the world's biggest arts festival has called it a day, and rolled out of Edinburgh for another year.  Yet the Fringe isn't the only show in town!  There's still plenty to catch up on before the fireworks display ends the Festival season on Sunday... and so, if you've got the energy, we've got the details.

The transformation's Udderway
Published on Monday, 01 August 2011

They're putting up a tent on Bristo Square.  We know what comes next, because we've seen it there before.  The spindly legs will be added soon; its head can't be far behind.  And then, they'll attach a bright purple udder.

It's a COW.  It's lying flat on its back.  And it means just one thing...  The Fringe is coming to town!

Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo preview, Thursday 4 August, 9:30pm

Monday sees one of Edinburgh's most keenly-awaited Festival ticket releases: the chance to get a half-price seat at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.  The Tattoo's main run is very close to selling out, but they've been holding back tickets for its "preview" - or as the less breathlessly enthusiastic might call it, the dress rehearsal.  The only date available is Thursday 5 August, at 9:30pm, but the good news is that all tickets come at a 50% discount.

Second chance for fireworks tickets

Bank of Scotland Fireworks Concert, Sunday 4 September, 9pm

Today's a red-letter day here at Ticket Alert, as the Edinburgh International Festival releases the second batch of tickets for its famous end-of-Festival fireworks concert.  This isn't quite your last chance for these passes - there'll be another release on 3 September - but it's the easiest of the remaining options; this batch of tickets are on sale online, while September's quota involves a lengthy wait in the notorious fireworks queue.

Edinburgh Book Festival publishes its plans
Published on Monday, 20 June 2011

Edinburgh International Book Festival, 13 - 29 August

The second major Festival to launch its programme in June, the Edinburgh International Book Festival has swung into action with a mammoth schedule of talks and seminars.  Coinciding with the second part of the Fringe, and running from 13th to 29th August this year, there's a lot to recommend the Book Festival; it's gentle, manageable, and the sheer variety of its programme means you're sure to find something which interests you there.
