The door opens and you step in, with little idea of what’s waiting on the other side.  The actors are there to meet you… but soon, it dawns on you that you’re an actor too.  Back this year with all-new scenarios, 101 gives us, the Fringe audience, a chance to hog the stage – throwing us in at the sharp end of a storyline, and making it our job to drive the narrative on.

It’s an intense, even physical experience, but there’s no need to worry.  From the moment you step into the room, you’ll be shadowed by a full-time actor, who offers subtle guidance and unobtrusive encouragement to help you play your part.  You’ll get the most of 101 if you step outside your comfort zone, but that might be as simple as speaking a couple of lines; the cleverly-structured scenarios give plenty of hints about what you’re expected to do.

And if you do want to throw yourself in, they’re ready for anything, and will respond and adapt to whatever curve balls you might choose to throw them.  True enough, it’s an actors’ workshop turned into a show – but for those of us who don’t do this from day to day, it’s a fascinating experience to live through.  This is interactive theatre in its purest form… and the decisions you make may teach you things about yourself you didn’t previously know.
