Unmythable |

Unmythable is a whirlwind, whistle-stop tour of Greek mythology. Set sail aboard the famous Argo, with a complementary olive no less, and prepare to be named an Argonaut. Temple Theatre’s talented trio – Troels Hagen Findsen, Paul O’Mahony and Will Pinchin – are an enthusiastic bunch with a knack for playing multiple characters. They switch effortlessly between gods and monsters or men and women, both between and within scenes (and sometimes conversations). Unmythable is a well-judged show, with a satisfying count of laughs whether or not you’re familiar with the tales. A perfect family show, the humour is well targeted to appeal to both adults and children. It doesn’t shy away from tackling some of the lesser known myths, and extracts plenty of giggles whilst keeping the content faithful to the original tale. The fast-paced delivery does make for a show that’s still a little rough around the edges. But, while the singing might not be pitch-perfect, the cast expertly pull off silly sound effects one minute, and a touching song from the women of Greek mythology the next. There’s also a particularly funny scene from inside the Trojan Horse. Mike Tweddle’s direction keeps the show bounding along heroically, and the energetic cast keep the audience involved throughout. So, Unmythable is an enjoyable ride through everyone’s favourite ancient tales, and maybe a few you won’t have heard yet. It definitely leaves the audience wanting more. |
